For Brides
She Didn't Know She Was Getting a Big Fat Russian Wedding.
Four Seasons Resort and Club • Dallas, TX • 2019
An American bride. A Russian family. A ballroom full of people who flew across the world to be in that room.
Before the vows, before the rings, before anything else — the officiant looked out at the room and said it: "I do not know if you have noticed, but you got yourself in a big fat Russian wedding." Sarah laughed. Jon's family laughed louder. That was the tone for the entire day. Jon's father stood up later and told the room, in his careful, warm English, "Young love across cultures keeps the world together." He paused. Then he thanked Sarah for dealing with his family — "We're very unusual. Sometimes we laugh too much, sometimes we yell too much. It doesn't change anything, right?" It didn't change anything. It was exactly the point.
Jon had written Sarah a letter. Not poetry — something more honest than that. He told her there was no single moment, no one phrase that explained why she was the person. It was her energy. Her optimism. Her determination. Her best friend put it differently: "If you know Sarah, you know she loves love. And I am so happy that the girl who loves love is having this love story." The Four Seasons ballroom held all of it — two families, two cultures, one room, and something that felt completely, quietly inevitable.
